Homeostasis
Generally, in healthy individuals the immune system is in a balanced state known as homeostasis. Harbor BioSciences’s therapeutic approach is based on the observation that this balance is regulated by certain hormones that act as cellular signalers that control gene expression necessary for proper biological function. Diseases, stress, trauma or aging can significantly alter the levels of these hormones in the body and disrupt normal signaling pathways and gene expression, leading to dysregulation. The body then either under responds, resulting in immune suppression, or over responds, leading to chronic inflammation. Harbor BioSciences’s goal is to use its compounds in a systems-based approach to restore the signals that are required for the organ systems within the body to function properly and effectively control a variety of conditions.
